Aitutaki

The deserted beaches and turquoise blue lagoon really have to be seen to be believed. Many enjoy the lagoon on a day trip from Rarotonga, but there is also a great choice of places to stay for longer. The best way to explore the lagoon is with an organized tour, this can be arranged from all hotel tour desks. There are day trips where you can enjoy a beach barbecue on a deserted island and an afternoon swim or snorkel, or sunset cruises are also a popular option.

And back on the mainland you can enjoy a two-hour island tour on Mike Henry’s colourful island tour bus. The bus circles the island, stopping in the town centre and at other points of interest along the way. If you happen to be staying in Aitutaki on a Sunday, don’t miss the local church service held at the oldest church in the Cook Islands, built in 1828.
